It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bob passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 15, 1945, in Springfield, Illinois, Bob was known for his warm smile, quick wit, and unwavering kindness. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bob dedicated his life to serving others, both in his career and his community. After his time in the military, Bob worked as a teacher for over 30 years, inspiring countless students with his passion for history and his belief in the power of education.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hiking, and spending time at the family cabin in the mountains. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a good book, a strong cup of coffee, and evenings filled with laughter and stories shared around the campfire.

Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret; his children, Lisa (Mark) Turner and David (Samantha) Johnson; and his four cherished grandchildren, Emily, Jacob, Hannah, and Olivia. He is also survived by his loyal dog, Max, who rarely left his side.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Springfield Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Veterans Assistance Foundation, honoring Bob’s lifelong dedication to supporting his fellow servicemen and women.

Bob’s legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
